Working with Quantitative Data

In this assignment you will be given a set of data and asked to: (follow the links for further explanation and/or examples).

Before starting, check to see if the data analysis routines are installed.

1) Import the data into a spreadsheet
2) Compute the following measures for your data:
- a) the mean
- b) the median
- c) the standard deviation
- d) the minimum
- e) the maximum
- f) the first quartile
- g) the third quartile
- h) the interquartile range (IQR)
- i) the upper fence (Q3+1.5 times the IQR)
- j) the lower fence (Q1-1.5 times the IQR)
- k) the 90th percentile
- l) the 95th percentile
1) construct the Five Number Summary for the data
2) identify any outliers in the data (i.e., data points outside the fences)
3) construct a box plot for the data (you can draw this by hand if necessary)
4) construct a histogram of the data
5) construct the Five Number Summary for the data
6) (verbally) categorize the shape of the distribution
