MA207-B Spring 2008 Regression Modelling Project - Problem 6

Volunteers campaigning for candidate for public office go door-to-door contacting as many potential voters as possible. The number of volunteer hours is recorded by voting precinct.

The candidate's campaign manager wants to determine if this is an effective use of volunteer resources. Poll data before and after the volunteer canvasing is compared, and in each precinct the proportion of respondents supporting the candidate is extrapolated to a vote total for the precinct.

The data consists of the volunteer hours for 48 precincts, and the extrapolated gain or loss in total votes for that precinct after canvasing.

Use the data in your comma delimited file to construct a regression model.

How would you interpret the slope of the regression line in this problem?
How would you interpret the intercept of the regression line in this problem?
Were there any outliers or questionable data points? If so, how did you handle them?
