The exercise consists of:
If the machine you are using is configured to automatically open a spreadsheet when a .csv file is downloaded, you may be able to accomplish steps 1 and 2 by simply clicking or double-clicking on the link.
If not, you may have to right click on the link and use the "save as" function to save a local copy of the .csv file, preferably on your Desktop. Then, open the file with a spreadsheet program (you may be able to double-click the file icon).
Modify the spreadsheet by typing a formula to compute the average value into the cell below the total. The exact formula to use will depend on the number of data values you have. Here are some examples:
A sample modified spreadsheet is posted for reference. Position the cursor on cell B12 to see the correct formula for this example. The formula should be identical to the formula in column B on the Total line, but with SUM replaced by AVERAGE.
The computed average should agree with the value in the table below.
When you have modified the spreadsheet to compute the average, submit it as an email attachment to: equinn1@stonehill.edu
