Chapter 5 Review Guide
Emphasize the following material in prepration for Calculus II:
- Highest priority:
- The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, part 2 (p.385)
- Definition of an indefinite integral (p.391)
- Table of indefinite integrals (p.392). Note that the derivative of the right hand side is the integrand.
- Properties of the integral (properties 1-8 pp.373-375 plus the two additional boxes on p.373)
- The substitution rule (p.401)
- The substitution rule for definite integrals (p.404)
- Second priority:
- The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, part 1 (p.381)
- Integrals of symmetric functions (Item 7 on p.405)
- The net change theorem (p.394)
- Existence theorem for definite integrals (Theorem 3 on p.368)
- Definition of a definite integral as a limit of a sum (p.366)
- Lower priority:
- Read section 5.1 for understanding but don't get bogged down in the mechanics of calculating the sums.
- Theorem 4 (p.368)
