When to Use This Version

We would use this method of calculating a confidence interval in any of the following situations:

• We want to estimate the population proportion $p$ using a sample proportion $\hat{p}$

Assumptions The following assumptions are made:

• 1) The sample is obtained using simple random sampling
• 2) $n\hat{p}(1-\hat{p})\geq10$
• 3) The sample size is $5\%$ of the total population or less $(n\leq0.05N)$

Cell $B10$ will contain the word "Valid" if condition 2) is met, and "Not Valid" if it is not.
